About the Cocos Island
Located in the Eastern Tropical Pacific, 300 miles southwest of Cabo Blanco, Costa Rica, lies the famous Cocos Island Marine Park. A rugged and incredibly beautiful island, this World Heritage Site is the crown jewel of Costa Rica's many National Parks. Cocos Island has an irregular coastline, which makes estimation of land area more a matter of opinion than a surveyor's science, but it is roughly five miles by two miles (8 x 3 kilometers).
The island was formed during a volcanic upheaval about two-and-a-half million years ago and is composed of basaltic rock, labacorite and andecite lava flows. Its landmass is punctuated by four mountain peaks, the highest of which is Cerro Yglesisas, at 2,080 feet or 634 meters.
The island has two large bays with safe anchorages and sandy beaches: Chatham is located on the northeast side and Wafer Bay is on the northwest. Just off Cocos are a series of smaller basaltic rocks and islets. The largest satellite is Isla Manuelita (formerly Nuez).

The research vessels UNDERSEA HUNTER??? and SEA HUNTER??? are registered in Costa Rica and certified for International Voyages.
Both vessels meet international safety standards for emergency equipment and offer an extended expedition range of some 5000 nautical miles. Our ships have a proven autonomous endurance of up to 30 days, the limiting factor only being the re-supply of fresh food.
With an average cruising speed of 10 Knots, the vessels can safely and comfortably reach the most isolated corners of the undersea world.

A unique capacity On land or on the sea, we are equipped to handle any requirements you might have or any problems that might present themselves. We can actually design and fabricate specialized equipment right on board in order to assure mission success. Our flexibility is endless, such as installing a special boom and winch on one of our dive boats that would allow the safe launching and retrieval your large underwater camera housing and lighting systems. Either one of our vessels can accommodate a standard 20-ft.shiping container as a self-contained mobile film production unit. We have the capability to launch and retrieve a small scientific submersible, as well as supply it with the gas, electrical and scrubber material needed for autonomous diving excursions. We can cut and weld steel in any shape or form; work with electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems; even have metal parts custom-machined for specific use with diving, lighting and filming equipment.
